Are you passionate about mental health advocacy? Do you want to improve people\u2019s lives and emotional well-being?<\/p>\n<p>At Marymount University, we offer two master\u2019s specializations in Counseling that combine hands-on learning with in-person coursework to prepare a new generation of well-trained counselors. Our Counseling programs give you the tools and techniques you need to help individuals from a variety of backgrounds with emotional, physical, social, school, and work issues.<\/p>\n<p>We offer Master\u2019s in Counseling degrees in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/academics\/counseling\/master-of-arts-in-counseling\/clinical-mental-health\/\">Clinical Mental Health Counseling (Online &amp; On-Ground)\u00a0<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/academics\/counseling\/master-of-arts-in-counseling\/pastoral-clinical-mental-health\/\">Clinical Mental Health Counseling &#8211; with a concentration in Pastoral Clinical Mental Health Counseling (Online &amp; On-Ground)<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We also offer a M.A.\/M.A. option with Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Forensic &amp; Legal Psychology. The M.A.\/M.A. admits as an on-ground program. Students may not be admitted to the online program for CMHC if they are in the M.A.\/M.A. program.<\/p>\n<p>No matter which specialization of Counseling you choose, you will be prepared to meet the needs of individuals from all walks of life. Marymount\u2019s Counseling faculty have practiced and consulted in the field and bring their expertise into the classroom to help you understand and support the needs of individuals, communities, and families. Our Counseling degree programs also feature unique learning experiences beyond the classroom \u2014 global study experiences, internships, practicum experiences, and research \u2014 in which you gain valuable opportunities and perspectives throughout your time at Marymount.<\/p>\n<p>Towards the end of your Counseling program of study, you will be eligible to take the\u00a0<u><a id=\"OWA7c8b9a2f-07ac-a2ee-9a65-50d606cc78a5\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcc.org\/exams\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-loopstyle=\"linkonly\" data-linkindex=\"0\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) examination<\/a><\/u> before graduating. This is the first step in beginning the post-masters clinical and supervision residency requirements to become a licensed professional counselor. Make a difference and serve your community with an M.A. in Counseling from Marymount University.<\/p>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><b><u data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">Residency Requirement For ALL Students Admitted to School of Counseling: M.A. or Ph.D. Program (regardless of delivery method):<\/u><\/b><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">Taken from CACREP email and website regarding Policy A.2.e. Program Training Requirement:<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">At its February 2026 meeting, the CACREP board amended this policy. The revised policy is below, and is effective as of February 9, 2026:<\/span><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><b>Beginning July 1, 2026, programs, regardless of program delivery method, require and deliver\u00a0<\/b><b><u>synchronous experiences\u00a0<\/u><\/b><b>to observe and assess counseling skills and professional dispositions for all students at least at two points throughout the student\u2019s program of study of which one occurs prior to the practicum.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">The interpretation of this policy is as follows:<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">1. \u00a0 \u00a0 The requirements of this policy are applicable to all students entering the counselor education program on or after July 1, 2026.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">2. \u00a0 \u00a0 Counseling students must participate in\u00a0<b><u>synchronous<\/u><\/b>\u00a0experiences that will allow the program to observe and assess counseling skills and professional dispositions at a minimum of two points throughout the students\u2019 program of study for entry-level and doctoral students.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">3. \u00a0 \u00a0 The required\u00a0<b>synchronous<\/b>\u00a0experiences may be provided in person (i.e. on campus or at another physical location) and\/or may be digitally delivered.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">4. \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<b>For entry-level students,<\/b>\u00a0one of the synchronous experiences must occur prior to practicum.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">\u2002\u2002\u2002\u2002<b>For doctoral students,<\/b>\u00a0one of the synchronous experiences must occur prior to the doctoral internship.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">5. \u00a0 \u00a0 The goals are to:<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">a) \u00a0 \u00a0 observe each student\u2019s professional behaviors with university staff and with peers;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">b) \u00a0 \u00a0assess students to ensure they can deliver core counseling skills;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">c) \u00a0 \u00a0 assess professional dispositions, and<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">d) \u00a0 \u00a0provide feedback to students regarding strengths and areas for improvement or remediation.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><u>Online Ph.D. In Counselor Education and Supervision students\u00a0<\/u>will be required to be available for observation and assessment to meet this standard on or around the following timeframes (TBD at mandatory orientation):<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">CE801: Clinical Skills Assessment (Year 1, Spring)<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">CE805: Internship in Counselor Education (Year 2, Spring)<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><u>Online and On ground M.A. Students in CMHC and CMHC with a concentration in Pastoral\u00a0<\/u>will be required to be available for observation and assessment to\u00a0meet this standard on or around the following timeframes (TBD at mandatory orientation):<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">Online Cohort CE522: Individual Skills (Fall of Year 1) and Year 2 CE597: Practicum in CMHC (Spring Year 2)<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">On ground students: CE522: Individual Skills (Fall or Spring, Year 1) and CE597: Practicum in CMHC (Spring Year 2)<\/span><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Help Provide Mental Health Care to Those Who Need it Most with a Master\u2019s Degree in Counseling Do you have an interest in human behavior?
