History of PIM<\/h3>\n

The term \u201cPortfolio in Motion\u201d was first introduced into the Marymount idiom in 1989 and has been headlining its runway ever since.<\/p>\n

Before Portfolio in Motion\u2019s<\/em> conception and before the fashion program became a part of the curriculum, Marymount Fashion students had been showcasing their work as early as the 1950s.<\/p>\n

In 1990, Marymount welcomed its first Designer of the Year, Carolina Herrera, and the program has continued to reinvent itself through the creativity of its students. The prestigious list of Designer of the Year honorees is a tribute to the caliber of the University\u2019s fashion program.<\/p>\n

Portfolio in Motion<\/em> is produced entirely by students. Over the course of the spring semester, while Fashion Design<\/a> students are busy producing their lines, Fashion Merchandising<\/a> students are planning out the details of the show. Every aspect, including student model selection, fashion design, choreography, stage and set design, commentary, ticket sales, and backstage management are all coordinated by students.<\/p>\n

In support of their efforts, community and industry leaders are involved in several capacities. In addition to the Designer of the Year, faculty committee, and guest master of ceremonies, each year\u2019s show has an event chair drawn from professional and alumni ranks.<\/p>\n
