It is best to apply for your student visa as early as possible. The instructions on this page are for students who will apply for their F-1 visa while outside of the U.S. When completing any forms or applications, be sure to enter your name exactly as it appears in your passport.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left; padding-left: 40px;\"><em>NOTE: If you are looking to change to F-1 status from another visa while in the United States, please visit our <a href=\"https:\/\/marymount.edu\/academics\/marymount-global\/international-student-services\/changing-visa-status\/\">Change of Status<\/a> page.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>\u00a0Step 1: Pay the SEVIS Fee<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>All F-1 visa applicants are required to pay the one-time <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fmjfee.com\/i901fee\/index.html\">SEVIS I-901 fee<\/a>.\n<ul>\n<li>The purpose of the fee is to help cover the administration and maintenance costs of the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>You can find your SEVIS ID on the top left corner of your I-20.<\/li>\n<li>Marymount SEVIS School Code is WAS 214F00223000<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Step 2: Submit Your Visa Application<\/h3>\n<p>Each applicant for an F-1 student visa must submit the following and complete these steps:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A\u00a0Form 1-20<\/li>\n<li>A completed nonimmigrant\u00a0Visa Application Form DS-160<\/li>\n<li>Review it and print it immediately with the specific bar code.<\/li>\n<li>Pay the Visa Fee.<\/li>\n<li>Have ready your passport that is valid for travel to the United States and with a validity date extending at least six months beyond the applicant\u2019s planned start of program.<\/li>\n<li>Passport photographs.<\/li>\n<li>Keep your SEVIS I-901 fee payment receipt.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Step 3: Schedule Your Visa Interview<\/h3>\n<p>As part of the F-1 visa application process, an interview at your local U.S. embassy or consular section is required. The waiting time for an interview appointment can vary, so early visa application is strongly encouraged.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 4: Prepare For and Attend Your Visa Interview<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Your visa interview will be brief and probably less than three minutes!
