Fine Arts offers a professional degree in Art Education the pre-professional degree track of Art Therapy

All major tracks in Fine Arts build on the curriculum for the B.A. in Art, adding classes from other departments that take advantage of Marymount’s strengths in those fields and prepare students for a specific career in the arts.

The Art Education degree (Art with K-12 Teaching Licensure) combines the studio art degree with additional classes necessary for licensure to teach in the commonwealth of Virginia, which has a strong need for art teachers. Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) licensure transfers easily to other states because it belongs to the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC).

The Pre-Art Therapy track provides a full curriculum of art classes plus Psychology courses that are needed for entry into a graduate program to earn a master’s degree and become a practicing art therapist. The undergraduate Pre-Art Therapy track can also prepare students to pursue graduate studies in related fields such as mental health counseling and counseling psychology.
