This might be a hands-on project in a class or it can be an experience with a business or with the government.<\/p>\n<p>Because of our location in the Washington, DC metro area, there are plenty of opportunities for internships and other work experiences including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Significant hands-on projects using tools used in the workplace (e.g. Wireshark, MySQL, AWS EC2)<\/li>\n<li>A capstone project that involves completing a major project or a research project based on the knowledge and skills gained in the program.<\/li>\n<li>Internships in the field, one is required in the senior year, but students are encouraged to take multiple internships through their program of study<\/li>\n<li>Participation in competitions (e.g. CyberFusion) and engagement in other events.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These opportunities provide excellent experience in conjunction with the annual IT seminars which focus on workplace readiness.<\/p>\n<p>Recent internship placements include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>NVIDIA<\/li>\n<li>Ernst and Young<\/li>\n<li>Department of Justice<\/li>\n<li>Booz Allen Hamilton<\/li>\n<li>Health Resources and Services Administration<\/li>\n<li>Noblis<\/li>\n<li>Department of State<\/li>\n<li>USO<\/li>\n<li>MISI, Dreamport<\/li>\n<li>International Center for Missing and Exploited Children<\/li>\n<li>The Salvation Army<\/li>\n<li>Stand Together<\/li>\n<li>SAIC<\/li>\n<li>Washington Post Interactive<br \/>\nand many more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Some IT majors choose to intern overseas, facilitated by Marymount\u2019s <a title=\"Center for Global Education\" href=\"\/Academics\/Services-Resources\/Center-for-Global-Education\" data-cke-saved-href=\"\/Academics\/Services-Resources\/Center-for-Global-Education\">Center for Global Education<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Marymount\u2019s <a title=\"Center for Career Development\" href=\"\/Academics\/Services-Resources\/Center-for-Career-Services\" data-cke-saved-href=\"\/Academics\/Services-Resources\/Center-for-Career-Services\">Center for Career Development<\/a> can helps students find internships using the Handshake application, as well as create a r\u00e9sum\u00e9 and practice interviewing skills.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Companies are looking for students who also have same experience in the field.
