Competency-Based Curriculum

Our curriculum is designed to meet proficiency in the following competencies. These competencies are assessed at the beginning and conclusion of the program.

  • Application & Promotion of Ethical & Moral Standards in Business and Clinical Decision Making: The ability to demonstrate moral and ethical standards in one’s behavior and attitude towards team members, patients and the community.
  • Analysis of Current and Historical Policy and Application: The ability to analyze current and historical policies using an economic, social, political or ethical approach.
  • Responsiveness to Legal, Regulatory and Policy Directives: The ability to understand and apply the knowledge of laws, regulations and policies in business and clinical decision making.
  • Knowledge Management in Healthcare Settings: The ability to understand and explain sources of knowledge to improve organizational performance.
  • Critical and Analytical Thinking: The ability to understand a situation, issue, or problem by breaking it into smaller pieces, identifying causal relationships and tracing implications to an evolving healthcare industry.
  • Data Analysis and Applications: The ability to analyze and apply data using quantitative or qualitative methods to solving conceptual problems, substantiating evidence and testing research questions.
  • Economic Analysis and Applications: The ability to understand and interpret different business scenarios from an economic standpoint within a theoretical framework.
  • Financial Skills: The ability to understand and explain financial and accounting information, prepare and manage budgets, and complete financial analyses to support strategic and operational decisions.
  • Human Resource Management: The ability to implement staff development and other management practices that represent best practices, comply with legal and regulatory requirements, and optimize the performance of the workforce, including performance assessments, alternative compensation and benefits methods, and alignment of human resources practices and processes to meet the strategic goals of the organization.
  • Oral and Written Communication Skills: The ability to speak and write in a clear, logical and grammatical manner in a formal or informal situation, and to make cogent business presentations.
  • Population Health and Status Assessment: The ability to analyze and interpret health status and outcomes, disparities, and risks to broader populations in the community.
  • Process Planning, Management and Implementation: The ability to analyze, design, and execute an organizational process including incorporating the principles of quality management and/or customer satisfaction.
  • Performance Measurement: The ability to understand, interpret and use statistical/financial methods or metrics to identify goals or measure clinical as well as organizational performance, commitment to or employment of evidence-based techniques.
  • Effective Team Participation and Leadership: The ability to work effectively and demonstrate leadership in a team: manage team members, demonstrate maturity and emotional intelligence, delegate responsibilities and achieve set goals of a project.
  • Innovative Thinking and Strategic OrientationThe ability to draw implications and conclusions in light of the economic, demographic, ethno-cultural, and regulatory trends and developments, and use these insights to develop creative solutions to problems and an evolving vision for the organization.
