Keep Studying Abroad

While COVID-19 has created unprecendented challenges for all of us, the Center for Global Education encourages students to remain curious about the world, stay globally engaged, and plan for a time when we will be able to travel again.

During this time when much is still unknown, there are steps that you can take to maintain momentum in planning your study abroad experience. It is never to early to start researching and planning for your study abroad experience. You can get started by following some of the steps below.

Explore Funding Options

There is a common misconception that studying abroad has to break the bank, but here at Marymount, we offer a variety of low-cost program options that fit different budgets and financial needs. Students are able to use most of their financial aid and scholarships to study abroad, and students can also apply for additional scholarships. Watch our video on “Funding Your Study Abroad” to learn more, and explore our resources on Financial Aid and Budgeting.

Plan Ahead

It’s never too early to start planning your study abroad experience. In fact, we recommend that students begin to think about studying abroad even as a first-year student. Talk with your Academic Advisor to let them know you would like to study abroad and start thinking about how study abroad fits into your academic plan. Remember that students can take a mix of both major courses and core requirements abroad, and the CGE helps students ensure that all their study abroad credits will count toward their degree. You can review courses that are pre-equated in our Study Abroad Course Database.

Think Outside the Box

COVID-19 has forced many of us to get creative and think outside the box. We have adapted to virtual classes, virtual work meetings, and virtual hangouts with friends. Study abroad is no exception!

Many of our partners have introduced virtual program options, including virtual global internship programs! Most students know that an internship is required for all Marymount students, but did you know that you can complete this internship virtually with a company based abroad in major cities like London, Paris, and San Jose?
