Science touches every aspect of life – from how it begins and how it ends, to how it is lived in between. The same, of course, is true of religion. Looking the other way, every aspect of life touches science – from politics and power, to understanding the roots of creativity and communication. And the same, of course, is true of religion. This one-week course considers this rich interplay: how science, religion, medicine, and the arts mutually inform, illuminate, and enrich one another.
The course draws together expert speakers from across diverse disciplines to address these topics, though it does not assume that attendees have any formal training in any or all of the topics covered. Many of the speakers have a personal religious – often Christian – faith, though the talks are intended for those of any faith or none.
Join us at Lucy Cavendish College, a short walk from the heart of historic Cambridge and the river Cam. Online participation, live streaming and catchup viewing will also be made available to support delegates in different time zones.
Fall 2024 Global Classroom – HPR 302: Rural Health in Appalachia (3-credit course)
Application Deadline: Sunday, Sept. 1, 2024
Trip Dates: Thursday, Oct. 31 – Sunday, Nov. 3
This domestic Global Classroom allows students in the health sciences to travel to Appalachia to volunteer with Remote Area Medical. Students will gain hands on experience in health communication and assessment skills while investigating health inequities in rural America. This semester course will include a 4-day trip trip to Clinton, TN and includes an environmental scan of the area and two full days of working with the community to address their health needs. Flights to Tennessee, lodging, and emergency travel health insurance will be provided. Students must be approved by lead faculty to be registered in the course. Spots are limited and applications may be reviewed by a panel.
