The student attends his or her scheduled hearing with a hearing officer. The officer will ask the student to provide a synopsis of the event. Using this information, the hearing officer determines whether the student is responsible for violating a University policy.
If a violation occurred, the hearing officer assigns a sanction that is appropriate based on the severity of the violation or student’s judicial history. The sanction
is meant to be an educational exercise to help the student understand the importance of the policy, why the policy is in place, and to help keep the student from repeating the violation in the future.
The student is entitled to appeal the decision of the hearing officer. Read more about the appeals process
