"It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O most High, to proclaim your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night, to the music of the ten-stringed lyre and the melody of the harp. For you make me glad by your deeds, O Lord; I sing for joy at the works of Your hands."
Marymount’s Music Ministry leads the congregation in song for both the 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday Masses on campus. The Women’s Choir sings for the 11 a.m. Mass, while the co-ed Chapel Choir sings for the 7 p.m. Mass.
Besides singing for the Sunday Masses on campus, the choirs collaborate to lead music at the annual Mass of the Holy Spirit, the Baccalaureate Mass, and all other University liturgies. The choirs traditionally present a concert or other special performance each semester. During the 2011-2012 school year, they performed a Sacred Music Concert, sang at a joint Christmas Concert with Blue Harmony, and led a Taizé Prayer Service.
Opportunities also exist to join one of the two student-led praise groups on campus – the Thursday night Mass and Adoration group, or the IGNITE praise band, which leads music for IGNITE (an ecumenical praise and worship night on campus).
There are openings for all voice parts and instruments. Students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members are welcome to join. You need not be Catholic to participate.
Scholarships are available to student musicians who exhibit exemplary ability and leadership qualities, and who use their gifts to enhance the Sunday Masses.
