Dr. Pamela Diener, a developmental neuroscientist and pediatric Occupational Therapist, has been a faculty member at Marymount since 1996. Previously, she worked at pediatric rehabilitation hospitals in Boston, Baltimore, and Washington, DC. She is dedicated to helping children with severe to profound neurologic disabilities to recover motor skills through the use of enriched or activity-based exercises. Dr. Diener’s research interests are further expanded in her basic science laboratory where she
- creates interventions (enriched sensorimotor experiences) that facilitate the development of postural and reaching skills while enhancing regenerative growth of the injured immature central nervous system and
- crafts/evaluates sensitive measurement tools to detect recovery from the unique motor deficits seen in Rett Syndrome or following trauma to the immature spinal cord.
She disseminates her research results at international and national conferences and publishes in peer-reviewed neuroscience journals. Dr. Diener serves on the Scientific Review Board of the International Rett Syndrome Foundation and is a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association and the Society for Neuroscience.
