Women’s Soccer Falls to Greensboro
Washington, D.C. – Marymount University’s women’s soccer team lost 6-2 to Greensboro College on Friday afternoon. The Saints matched the Pride shot-for-shot in the game but couldn’t overcome an early deficit.
Greensboro (8-4-1) jumped on the board early at the 3:31 mark. The Pride would add another pair of goals less than a minute apart in the 16th minute to push their lead to 3-0.
Marymount (4-8-0) notched its first goal in the 36th minute on a nice give-and-go between Paige Pierson and Katie Hamelin. Feeding Hamelin before streaking down the left side, Pierson collected a tap pass and delivered a hard hit shot to the top shelf far post for the goal.
The Pride would add a fourth goal in near the end of the period after an unsuccessful attempt to clear the ball out the Saints’ own box. Another Marymount miscue to begin the second frame notched an own goal as the MU defense’s attempted backline clear errantly found the back of the net.
Marymount added its second score in the 73rd minute as Jaimie Nguyen tallied her first goal of the season. Collecting a rebound from a Shannon Bisselink shot, Nguyen blasted the ball past the Pride keeper for the score.
Greensboro closed out the scoring 93 seconds later to close out the game 6-2.
Marymount returns to action on Tuesday, October 20, at St. Mary’s (Md.) in Capital Athletic Conference play.
