Women’s Lacrosse Tops Bridgewater
Bridgewater, Va. – Marymount University’s women’s lacrosse team earned its second-straight win of the season with a 14-11 victory over Bridgewater (Va.) on Saturday afternoon. The Saints held off a late Eagles comeback attempt in the second half to seal the victory.
Junior Lindsay Quinn led the Saints (2-1) with five goals and an assist while freshman Chelsea Ritter added four and junior Stephanie Flood had a pair. Junior Tancy Weatherford, senior Katie Dean and senior Susan Jung all chipped in a goal. Weatherford, Flood and Lori Renner each contributed assists.
Defensively, Lourdes Lanzas and Erika Dommes split time between the pipes and combined for seven saves. Renner led the Saints with two caused turnovers and Ritter hauled in six draw controls and four ground balls.
The Saints opened the game with four-straight goals and scored eight of the first nine over the first 16 minutes of play. Bridgewater would end the stanza on a run, scoring five unanswered goals to cut the MU lead to 9-7 at the break.
After scoring the first goal in the second half, Marymount gave up four-straight BC goals to give the Eagles their first lead at 11-10 with 17 minutes to play. Not backing down, the Saints responded with four unanswered goals to close out the game and claim the 14-11 victory.
Leslie Crawford led the Eagles with four goals while Megan Bach added three and Taylor Chamberlain and Caitlin Costello each had two.
Marymount returns to action on Wednesday at Neumann.
