Men’s Basketball Takes Down Hood
Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s men’s basketball team defeated visiting Hood 68-63 in Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon. The Saints avenge an earlier season loss to the Blazers and split the season series.
John Magnani led the Saints (5-18, 3-11 CAC) with 16 points and eight rebounds while Tarek Ammoury added 15 points and Reed Scott chipped in 14. Ammoury also iced the game down the stretch, converting both free throws with 12 seconds remaining to give MU a five point lead.
Hood (13-11, 8-7 CAC) controlled the first half, jumping to a 16-6 lead before eventually taking a 33-25 lead going into halftime.
Down eight coming out of the break, the Saints went on a 13-4 over the first six minutes of the second half to take a 38-37 lead. With a combined nine ties and seven lead changes, both squads saw the score knotted at 60-60 with 2:27 remaining.
A three-pointer by Mac Kennedy on the ensuing possession gave the Saints a three-point lead before Ammoury added another as the shot clock expired to put MU up 66-60. The Blazers responded with a three of their own with 57 seconds to play before Ammoury put the game away on the charity stripe two possessions later.
Brenden Straughn led the Blazers with 17 points while Cameron Cook and Tyler Snoots added 16 and 15, respectively.
Marymount returns to the hardwood on Wednesday as it hosts Forstburg State in the 2010-11 home finale.
