Men’s Hoops Downed by Mary Washington
Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s men’s basketball team dropped its Capital Athletic Conference showdown 75-64 against league rival Mary Washington on Monday night.
Four Saints (4-15, 2-8 CAC) scored in double figures, led by freshman Reed Scott’s 14 points to go with 11 rebounds for a double-double. Juniors Tarek Ammoury and John Magnani, as well as freshman Keenan Brown, all chipped in 11.
The Saints outshot the Eagles (13-6, 7-4 CAC) from the floor and behind the arc but were undone by UMW’s deluge of threes. Marymount shot 51.9 percent from the field but Mary Washington hit 10 threes compared to MU’s two.
Mary Washington led the entire first half, taking advantage of 12 Saints turnovers for 16 points. The Eagles led by as many as nine in the frame before taking a 36-30 advantage into the break.
The Saints opened the second half on an 8-0 run to take their first lead of the game at 38-36. Trading leads, the Eagles used an 11-0 run to go up 49-40 and held Marymount to at least a two possession deficit until the 8:15 mark. Mary Washington then pushed its lead to double-figures with just under four minutes to play and held off the Saints down the stretch.
Mike Harvey led the Eagles with a game-high 22 points while Ryan Henderson added 13 off the bench.
Marymount returns to action on Wednesday as it hosts Salisbury in CAC play.
