April Westmark Tabbed CAC Player of the Week
York, Pa. – Marymount University freshman goalkeeper April Westmark was named the Capital Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday. Westmark and the Saints have yet to taste defeat in October as the rookie netminder led her Marymount squad (4-5-0, 1-1-0) to a pair of victories in the month’s opening week.
The Saints downed CAC foe Wesley to kick-off October; Westmark logged a stellar effort between the pipes, posting eight saves in the Saints’ first conference win since 2010. Westmark would add four saves to her weekly total in Marymount’s decisive victory over non-conference opponent Washington Adventist.
Westmark improves her record to 3-1-0 on the season following the successful week. So far, the freshman has tallied 31 saves in her opening campaign.
The Saints return to action on Tuesday as they host York (Pa.) in CAC play. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m. at Long Bridge Park and fans can follow the action live by logging on to www.marymount.edu/athletics/wSoccer and selecting the “live stats” link.
