York, Pa. – Marymount University’s men’s soccer goalkeeper Mike Madigan was named the Capital Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday. Madigan led the Saints to a 2-0 record on the week including a win in their CAC and home opener.
Opening the week with a 3-1 win on the road at Penn State Brandywine, Madigan collected three saves as the Saints won their first match of the season. The lone goal allowed was on a penalty kick.
Closing out the week with a 2-1 victory over St. Mary’s (Md.), Marymount evened its record to 2-2-2 on the year and moved into a tie for first place in the conference standings. After allowing an early goal in the fifth minute, Madigan held the Seahawks scoreless down the stretch while hauling in five saves.
Marymount returns to action on Wednesday as it travels to face Salisbury at 4 p.m. in CAC competition.
