Paige Pierson Named CAC Player of the Week
York, Pa. – Marymount University’s Paige Pierson was named the Capital Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday. Pierson is the second Saints student-athlete to earn a conference weekly honor this season, joining women’s cross country runner Jessie Daley.
Putting together a dominating week, Pierson netted five goals in two games as the Saints went a perfect 2-0 in CAC play. The local product from Sterling, Va., scored the game-winner and logged an assist in a 2-1 victory over Wesley before recording all four goals in a 4-2 win over Hood.
Against the Wolverines, Pierson connected with Shannon Bisselink to open scoring in the eighth minute before notching the game-winner in the 70th minute.
Returning home against the Chargers, Pierson needed just 34 minutes to complete a first half hat-trick. She put the Saints on the board in the seventh minute off a cross from Bisselink before adding another eight minutes later on a bending free kick. Pierson earned her third goal in the 34th minute after taking a pass from Beth Wiggins and streaking the length of the pitch to beat the Hood keeper one-on-one.
With her fourth goal, Pierson produced the second-highest single-game scoring total in team history. Her shot in the 67th minute off a free kick from Jaimie Nguyen broke open a close 3-2 game and added a cushion for the Saints victory.
