Swarthmore, Pa. – Marymount University’s volleyball team went 2-2 over the weekend to place second at the Swarthmore Garnet Classic. Junior Melissa Warren and freshman Erin Allison earned All-Tournament Team honors for their efforts.
The Saints downed Cabrini and Rutgers-Camden 3-2 (25-21, 21-25, 25-15, 19-25, 16-14) and 3-1 (25-10, 16-25, 25-20, 25-23), respectively, to earn a spot in the championship game against host Swarthmore. Playing two matches against the Garnet, Marymount fell 3-0 (24-26, 15-25, 14-25) in the first contest and lost 3-0 (23-25, 19-25, 17-25) in the title match.
Warren tallied 105 assists on the weekend for a 7.5 per set average. She added 43 digs, including a team-high 24 against Cabrini to go with seven blocks for the weekend) .934 serve percentage 43 digs (3rd best on team) for the weekend with a team high 24 digs vs Cabrini 7 blocks
Allison logged 25 kills with a team-high eight against Swarthmore in the championship match. She added 34 digs for the weekend and led the Saints with seven services aces.
Johanna Hummel posted a double-double against Cabrini with 10 kills and 13 digs while Jenn Forbes hit .317 for the tournament with 28 total kills.
Emily Shultis put together her best hitting and blocking performance of the season with eight kills and no errors on 10 attempts against Rutgers-Camden. She added six blocks against the Scarlet Raptors and led the Saints with 15 rejections on the weekend. Forbes added 13 blocks in the middle as well.
Michelle McCormick and Cassidie Watson led the Saints in digs with 46 each.
Marymount returns to action on Wednesday as it hosts Stevenson in the Saints’ Capital Athletic Conference home opener.
