Women’s Volleyball Finishes as Runner-Up at Worthington Classic
Washington, D.C. – Marymount University’s women’s volleyball team won three out of four matches to finish as the runner-up of the Peg Worthington Classic, hosted by Gallaudet this weekend. The Saints won all three pool play matches against Bridgewater, North Park and the host Bison before falling to Whitter in the finals.
Emileigh Rettig was named to the All-Tournament team after averaging 1.80 kills, 3.33 digs and 0.53 blocks per set over the weekend.
Other impressive performances for MU (11-7) included Morgan McAlpin and Emily Shultis averaging 2.93 and 2.40 kps, respectively, Brianne Fitzpatrick averaging over nine assists a frame and Cassidie Watson collected 3.93 digs a stanza.
On Friday, the Saints took down Bridgewater 3-1 (28-26, 25-23, 20-25, 25-13) before sweeping North Park 3-0 (25-18, 27-25, 25-23). Marymount went on to beat Gallaudet 3-2 (19-25, 24-26, 25-12, 25-13, 15-12) in a come-from-behind thriller on Saturday. The win over the Bison is the first for the Saints since 2006.
Marymount went on to face Whitter in the finals before falling 3-0 (25-23, 25-15, 25-16).
