Women’s Volleyball Drops Pair to Close Out Regular Season
Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s women’s volleyball team closed out the 2013 regular season with a pair of losses on Saturday afternoon. The Saints opened the day with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-22, 25-20) loss to Christopher Newport in the Capital Athletic Conference finale before suffering a 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-7) setback to 20th-ranked former CAC foe Stevenson.
Despite the losses, Marymount clinches the fourth-seed in the upcoming CAC Tournament and host fifth-seeded St. Mary’s (Md.) at home on Tuesday in the first round of the draw.
Against Christopher Newport, Morgan McAlpin led the Saints with six kills while Emileigh Rettig added five, Becca Schroeder had four and Mallory Mitchell chipped in three. Rettig added a team-high three service aces as well.
Defensively, Cassidie Watson collected 15 digs while Emily Shultis was credited with three blocks, including a pair of solo rejections.
Against Stevenson, McAlpin paced the Saints with eight kills while Brianne Fitzpatrick added 13 assists.
Watson chipped in another 15 digs while Erin Allison added eight.
