Barry Gallery Update

Monday, June 01, 2009
Marymount University’s Barry Gallery began the spring semester with the abstract exhibition Form and Function: Paintings and Mixed Media by Van Nguyen. Ms. Nguyen is a well-known local artist who emigrated from South Vietnam in 1992, and much of her artistic inspiration stems from her cultural heritage. She explains, “My experience growing up in Vietnam was extremely influential to my development as an individual and an artist. The Vietnamese struggle for identity, both as a nation and as individuals, is the main source for my work.”

The gallery finished the academic year with Marymount’s annual Student Art and Design Exhibition. The juried show featured work by students from the University’s Fine Arts, Graphic Design, and Fashion Design departments. The 2009 edition of Marymount’s student literary arts magazine, blueInk, also debuted at the exhibit’s opening reception.
