Women’s Volleyball Wins 20th Match of Season
Camden, N.J. – Marymount University’s women’s volleyball team won its 20th victory of the season with a pair of non-conference wins on Saturday afternoon. The Saints swept John Jay 3-0 (25-8, 25-10, 25-5) before topping host Rutgers-Camden 3-1 (23-25, 25-7, 25-20, 26-24).
Marymount (20-6) has won 20 games or more seven other times, most recently in 2006. That season, the Saints won 24 matches, won the Capital Athletic Conference regular season with a perfect 7-0 record and reached the CAC Finals.
Opening the day with a dominating performance of John Jay, Johanna Hummel led the Saints with seven kills while Emily Shultis and Erin Allison added six each. Both Morgan McAlpin and Jenn Forbes chipped in four kills as well.
Courtny Carroll was nearly unstoppable at the service line, logging six aces in the match while McAlpin and Courtney Phung each added four aces.
Defensively, Forbes and Shultis both earned three blocks at the net. Cassidie Watson led MU with six digs.
Against Rutgers-Camden, Hummel again led the Saints with 11 kills. Forbes added nine, Allison notched eight and McAlpin had seven.
Keeping things hot at the service line, MU added another 14 aces as a team. Allison nailed home five service aces while Brianne Fitzpatrick had four and both Melissa Warren and Michelle McCormick chipped in a pair.
Defensively, McCormick collected 22 digs while Fitzpatrick added 13 and Allison had 11. McAlpin and Forbes both rejected four attacks while Warren and Shultis added three blocks each.
