Women’s Basketball Falls to Redlands to Close Out Marymount-Marine Corps Tip-Off Tournament

Sunday, November 21, 2010
Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s women’s basketball team fell 68-48 to Redlands to close out the 2010 MU-Marine Corps Tip-Off Tournament on Sunday. Senior Maame Amponsah earned All-Tournament Team honors after notching her third-straight double-double of the season.

Four Saints scored in double-figures, led by senior Amanda Billy’s 12 points. Jackie Bohenek, Sam Spencer and Amponsah all added 11 while Amponsah chipped in 11 rebounds for the double-double.

Already fielding a shorthanded roster, Marymount battled foul trouble in the game as Amponsah had to sit key minutes in the first half before eventually fouling out in the waning minutes of the contest. That didn’t stop the Saints’ forwards from pounding in the paint as Bohenek added seven rebounds and Julie Tomesheski chipped in six.

The Saints struggled to find their shot in the opening half, shooting less than 30 percent from the floor while the Bulldogs hit an even 50 percent of their shots. Fighting back in the second half, MU put together a hot 50 percent shooting performance from three-point territory.

Marymount returns to action on Wednesday, December 1, as it opens Capital Athletic Conference play at Frostburg State.
