Women’s Basketball Falls to York in CAC Semifinals
Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s women’s basketball team fell 37-32 to York (Pa.) in the semifinals of the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament on Thursday night. The Saints close out the season with a 13-10 record.
Senior forward Beth Wiggins led the Saints with 12 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double. Fellow senior Maame Amponsah added 10 boards and was just shy of a double-double with eight points.
A close, but low scoring, first half saw YCP take a 13-12 lead going into the break. Neither team shot particularly well in the opening frame with the Saints hitting just 22.7 percent of their shots to the Spartans’ meager 17.9%.
After trading leads to kick off the second stanza, York ran out to as much as an eight point lead. Marymount then battled back to knot things up at 30-30 on an old-fashioned three point play by Wiggins with four minutes to play.
York would hit a three-pointer on the next trip down to court to retake the lead and eventually sealed the game at the free throw line down the stretch.
Brittany Hicks led the Spartans with 11 points. She was the only York player to score in double-figures.
