York, Pa. – Marymount University senior goalkeeper Ross Fernandez was named the Capital Athletic Conference Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday. Fernandez led the Saints to a pair of key CAC victories on the week to keep MU on the inside track for a CAC postseason berth.
Opening the week with an 11-5 road victory over Frostburg State, Fernandez collected 17 saves and hauled in a pair of ground balls. He posted two shutout quarters and allowed just one goal in the final 21 minutes of action including two in the final 46 against the Bobcats.
Wrapping the week up with a 9-7 win against Wesley, Fernandez collected another 12 saves and shutout the Wolverines in the fourth quarter. He allowed just two goals in the final 33 minutes of action.
Fernandez also became just the fifth Saint to collected 500 career saves in program history.
Marymount (5-7, 2-4 CAC) returns to action on Wednesday as it hosts CAC foe Stevenson in the regular season home finale at Long Bridge Park.
