Women’s Soccer Tops Former CAC Foe to Even Record
Washington, D.C. – Marymount University’s women’s soccer team defeated former Capital Athletic Conference foe Gallaudet 5-0 in non-conference action on Wednesday night. The Saints snap a three-game losing-streak and even their season record to 6-6 overall, their most wins since the 2007 campaign.
Five different Saints notched goals in the game. Melissa Fessenden knocked home the game-winner in the 16th minute for her team-leading seventh goal of the season with an assist from Katie Hamelin. Alex Thomas added another for the Saints just over a minute later at the 16:57 mark.
Marymount posted another pair of goals in the opening frame. Danni Bankins gave MU a 3-0 lead in the 33rd minute off an assist from Fessenden while Danielle Canning scored on a rebound from Nicole Mercado’s initial attempt at the 43:54 mark.
Hamelin would record the Saints final goal six minutes into the second frame with an assist from Krysti Patient.
Marymount outshot the Bison 47-4 on the night with three of Gallaudet’s (4-12) shots coming on target. Holly Wenger got the start in goal and collected a lone save while Kenna Thompson finished out the second half and hauled in a pair of saves.
