Frederick, Md. – Despite dropping its regular season finale, the Marymount University men’s lacrosse team clinched a return trip to the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament for the first time since 2008. The Saints fell 10-6 to Hood on Thursday afternoon but sealed their postseason appearance courtesy of a three-way tie in the standings and a tiebreaking coin flip.
Marymount (5-10, 2-6, CAC), earning the sixth-seed in the draw, will travel to face St. Mary’s (Md.) in the opening round of the tournament on Sunday.
Jimmy Wendell led the Saints with a pair of goals against the Blazers. George Pugh, Ronnie Sanna, Lance Bernecker and Nico Burns scored as well. Danny Carson, Eric Martin, Ethan Quick, Pugh and Sanna all chipped in assists for the Blue and White.
Ross Fernandez collected 10 saves in goal for the Saints in the loss while hauling in a game-high eight ground balls. Mike Smith added five ground balls to go with four caused turnovers.
Shane O’Keefe and Corey Roberts led Hood (4-12, 2-6 CAC) with three goals each.
