Arlington, Va. – A pair of Elite Eight teams from last year’s NCAA Division III Tournament highlight the 2011-12 Marymount University men’s basketball schedule, released by head coach Chris Rogers on Friday. The Saints face three opponents that made the postseason last year as they look to return to the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament after missing last season’s draw.
Marymount will have the opportunity to polish its game at home, hosting 10 of its first 11 games of the season in the friendly confines of the Verizon Sports Arena. The Saints open up against Ursinus on November 15 before hosting the annual Marymount-Marine Corps Tip-Off Tournament that weekend on November 18-19. Marymount faces DeSales in the tournament first round and battles either Springfield or Eastern Mennonite in the finals.
The rest of November remains at home in Arlington, hosting Lynchburg and Union before opening CAC play against Frostburg State on November 30. December’s first game also marks the lone road contest of the semester as the Saints travel to York (Pa.) on December 3.
A four-game homestand is set for MU the rest of the calendar year, including back-to-back games against NCAA Tournament teams. The Saints host Elms on December 19 and Amherst, an Elite Eight squad from a year ago that is expected to claim the top spot in this year’s national preseason polls, on December 30.
January doesn’t begin any easier than where December left off. The Saints play just five of their 14 second-semester regular season games at home including opening the New Year on the road at defending CAC Champions and Elite Eight participants St. Mary’s (Md.) on January 4.
Other key dates include a pair of non-conference road games at Shenandoah and Lehman on January 11 and 28, respectively, and a home rematch against St. Mary’s (Md.) on February 4.
