Women’s Soccer Snaps Four-Game Skid

Wednesday, September 21, 2011
Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s women’s soccer team snapped a four-game losing streak with a 4-0 win over former league foe Gallaudet on Wednesday night. The Saints move to 12-0 all-time against the Bison in program history.

Katie Hamelin scored a pair of goals 79 seconds apart midway through the opening half to put the game away for the Saints (3-4-0). She was assisted on both goals by Lauren Sanders.

Marymount would add another pair of goals in the second half. Julie Fioramonti scored her second goal of the season in the 62nd minute, collecting a rebound off her own shot for a one-timer into the back of the net. Closing out the scoring Nicole Mercado would net her first career goal just four minutes later courtesy of a nice through-ball by Hamelin to then beat the GU (0-5-0) keeper one-on-one.

The Saints platooned all three goalkeepers on the night with Victoria Wyand (2-4-0) getting the win after playing the first half. Gaby Prellezo and Holly Wenger would close out the night and preserve the shutout, collecting a save each between the pipes.

Marymount returns to action as it opens a four game road swing beginning at Southern Virginia on Friday.
