Men’s Hoops Wins Third-Straight CAC Game
Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s men’s basketball team picked up its third-straight Capital Athletic Conference win with a 70-40 win over visiting Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday night. The Saints improve to 11-3 overall on the season and 4-2 in league play.
Three Saints scored in double-figures including a double-double from Reed Scott with 14 points and 11 rebounds to go with five assists, all three game highs. JC Hoellich added 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists while Devin Morrow chipped in 10 points and five boards off the bench.
Harrisburg (6-8, 3-3 CAC) scored the first basket of the game but the rest of the contest was controlled by Marymount. After the initial basket, the Saints went on a 12-1 run over the next seven minutes before the Lions were able to hit just their second field goal of the frame almost exactly halfway into the period. Locking down defensively, the Blue and White held PSH to only one more field goal during the next eight minutes of action, and three the rest of the half, en route to a 28-11 halftime lead.
Coming out of the break, MU held Harrisburg to a lone three-pointer over the course of the first five minutes of the second half before taking a 20-point lead on a pair of Brenden Cuyler free throws at the 15:33 mark. The Saints wouldn’t trail be any fewer than 15 the rest of the game and led by as many as 32 with five minutes to play.
Kenny Stone led Harrisburg with 12 points.
Marymount returns to the hardwood as it travels to face Christopher Newport in CAC action on Saturday.
