Women’s Volleyball Wins Pair in Home Opener
Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s women’s volleyball team won a pair of matches in its home opening tri-match on Saturday afternoon. The Saint opened the day with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-16) victory over Lycoming before topping Moravian 3-1 (25-21, 25-20, 17-25, 25-15).
With the wins, the Saints improve to 7-6 overall and have now won four-straight.
In the victory over Lycoming (8-6), Erin Allison paced the Blue and White with 11 kills while Emileigh Rettig added nine and both Emily Shultis and Morgan McAlpin had seven. McAlpin hit a sizzling .600 in the match while Rettig hit at a .381 clip as both committed just one attack error.
Brianne Fitzpatrick led the offense with 33 assists.
Defensively, Rettig notched eight digs while Allison added seven. Rettig and Shultis were both strong presences at the net, collecting four blocks each.
Against Moravian (5-8), Allison and Rettig both led the way with 10 kills while McAlpin added eight and Shultis had six. Fitzpatrick added another 31 assists while she and Allison recorded four service aces each.
Defensively, Cassidie Watason was credited with 24 digs while McAlpin and Rettig had five blocks each with Shultis contributing four.
Marymount returns to action on Wednesday as it travels to face Hood in non-conference action.
