Women’s Basketball Announces 2012-13 Schedule
Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s women’s basketball team has released its 2012-13 schedule, as announced by head coach Ashlee Courter on Tuesday. The Saints look to build on last season's success and make a return trip to Capital Athletic Conference Tournament.
“Our schedule is very challenging this season, especially against our non-conference opponents,” Courter said. “We will be playing four teams who competed in the NCAA tournament last year along with future CAC opponents Christopher Newport and Southern Virginia.”
Marymount will be tested early as it opens the season by hosting its annual Tip-Off Tournament on November 16th and 17th, once again bringing top-notch competition to the Verizon Sports Arena. The Saints host Bridgewater (Va.) on the first day of the tournament before facing either Gettysburg or CNU in the next round.
The Saints face four NCAA Tournament teams from 2011-12 this season, including former CAC rival Catholic on the road on November 20th. The Saints then close out the month at home, hosting another former CAC foe in Goucher and Susquehanna to Arlington on the 25th and 28th, respectively.
December opens with a tough slate for the Saints, playing four games in eight days. The Saints travel to Wesley for their CAC opener on the 1st before returning home to face in-state foes Virginia Wesleyan and Randolph-Macon on the 4th and 6th. Marymount closes out the span with a road trek to St. Mary’s (Md.) on the 8th.
Wrapping up the calendar year, MU hosts another 2012 NCAA team in Guilford on December 16th before hitting the road once again to take part in the Daytona Beach Shootout on the 19th and 20th. The Saints will face Berry and Fontbonne on back-to-back days in the Sunshine State.
January is home heavy for MU, playing seven of their eight games at home including six-straight. The Saints host rival Mary Washington on January 9th before travelling to take on York (Pa.) on the 12th, both 2012 NCAA Tournament teams. Marymount also faces YCP and UMW in back-to-back games on January 30th and February 2nd.
Marymount returns six players from last season including All-American and CAC Player of the Year Katelyn Fischer. The Saints went 14-13 overall in 2011-12, their 14th-straight winning season and 28th overall in 30 years on the hardwood.
