Men’s Hoops Wins First CAC Game of the Season
Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s men’s basketball team earned its first Capital Athletic Conference victory of the season with a 71-53 win over visiting Frostburg State on Saturday afternoon. The win is the second-straight for the Saints as they improve to 6-11 overall and 1-4 in league play.
Four Saints scored in double-digits, led by Reed Scott with 16. JC Hoellich added 15, Tim Brisco had 13 and Antonio Rouse chipped in 12, all three off the bench.
Despite the lopsided final score, the first half was an extremely tight back-and-forth affair. The first 20 minutes saw seven ties and four lead changes before MU took a 29-25 lead into halftime.
Frostburg (7-11, 2-4 CAC) would tie game again early in the second stanza but Marymount’s depth was too much for the Bobcats to handle down the stretch.
Marymount took control of the game in the final 11 minutes of action. Up two at 42-40 at the 11:13 mark of the second half, the Saints put together an 11-2 run over the next five minutes to take the first double-figure lead of the game by either team. After FSU responded with a basket, Marymount answered right back with a 17-4 run over another five minute span to surpass the 20-point lead plateau and seal the win.
Christian Jackson led Frostburg State with a game-high 20 points.
Marymount returns to the hardwood as it closes out its non-conference slate on the road at Penn State Altoona on Monday.
