Men’s Soccer Blanks Mary Washington

Saturday, September 29, 2012
Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s men’s soccer team shut out visiting Mary Washington 1-0 in Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday night. The Saints move to 3-4-2 on the season and 2-1 in league play, good for sole possession of third place in the CAC standings.

Onar Yousefi knocked home his second game-winner of the season in the 50th minute with an assist from Dajuan Spriggs.

The Saints defense played with an added fire after dropping their previous two games by a combined score of 14-1. Edwin Rivera, Darian Chuquillangui, Vinnie Bastos, Cory Van Heest and Nick Gruber fought off 19 shots from the Eagles (5-5, 0-2 CAC) with only eight of them coming on target.

Goalkeeper Mike Madigan did the rest with the eight shots he did see, making diving saves and athletic plays on UMW’s attempts. He finished the night with eight saves and earned his first shutout of the year.

Marymount returns to action on Wednesday as it travels to face future CAC foe Southern Virginia.
