St. Mary’s City, Md. – Marymount University’s swimming teams closed out the 2012 Capital Athletic Conference Championships with a third place finish for the women and a sixth place spot for the men. The Saints women’s squad tallied 427 total points while the men’s team posted 227.
Anna Macedonia put together another stellar day at the championships, winning her third individual event of the meet and claimed her second relay victory. She opened the day by breaking yet another CAC Championship record in the 100 freestyle with an NCAA ‘B’ provisional time of 52.09, a Marymount record and her third NCAA qualifying time of the championships. Macedonia went on to team with Katie Moran, Casey Thomas and Bridget Wunderly to win the 400 freestyle relay with another Marymount program record time of 3:35.25.
The Saints excelled in the 100 freestyle, winning all three medalist spots. Along with Macedonia’s victory, Moran placed second with a time of 53.85 and Thomas was third at 54.36. Marymount’s other medalist on the women’s side was Wunderly in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:14.68.
On the men’s side, Greg Shumaker was fifth in the 200 breaststroke at 2:15.29 and Ryan Kilmon was seventh in the 200 backstroke at 2:03.80 in the A-group final heats. Rett Neiman placed eighth in the 1650 freestyle, Tom Baroz was 11th in the 200 butterfly and Matt Ward finished 16th in the 100 freestyle to lead the consolation heats while the 400 freestyle relay team of Kilmon, Shumaker, Gardner and Ward placed sixth.
