Men’s Soccer Drops Heartbreaker to Frostburg State
Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s men’s soccer team suffered defeat on Wednesday evening as Frostburg State out-dueled the Saints 4-3 in what proved to be an explosive match. With the loss, the Blue and White fall to 4-9 on the season and 0-3 in CAC action.
Marymount struck first, taking true advantage of its free kicks. Onar Yousefi fired a pair of free kicks from just beyond the box – in the 11th and 30th minutes, respectively – tallying goals on each attempt.
Bryce Stouffer split a pair of defenders to find Jorge Alvarado early in the second half, adding a third Marymount goal in the 56th minute.
Despite a strong effort from the Saints, Frostburg State came alive and posted four goals in a ten-minute span late in the closing frame. The first goal fell in at the 73-minute mark, followed by subsequent strikes in the 80th and 82nd minutes to even the match at 3-3. Chris Jones found the back of the net in the 83rd minute to give the Bobcats the advantage. Jones paced Frostburg State with three goals on the day.
Saints’ goalkeeper Kurt Michaels collected eight saves in the contest.
Marymount returns to action on Saturday as it hosts York (Pa.) in another CAC match-up. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Long Bridge Park.
