Dover, Del. – Marymount University’s women’s basketball team returned to its winning ways with a 50-45 road victory at Capital Athletic Conference foe on Wednesday night. The Saints move to 7-10 overall and even their league record to 4-4.
Katelyn Fischer led all scorers with 19 points. Jackie Bohenek added eight points, shooting 50 percent from the floor.
Four Saints grabbed at least seven rebounds in the win led by Julie Tomesheski with a game-high 11. Bohenek, Dominique Dickens and Fischer each added seven in the victory. As a team, the MU out-rebounded the Wolverines 48-35.
Wesley (3-12, 2-6 CAC) took an early lead and held serve the entire opening half. Trailing by as many as 13 in the frame at 26-13 with three minutes to play, Marymount battled back to pull within three courtesy of a 10-0 run. The Wolverines would close out the half with a three-pointer on the final possession to take a 29-23 lead into halftime.
Coming out of the break on fire, the Saints took their first lead behind a 12-2 run over the opening eight minutes of the stanza. Wesley would retake the lead at the 5:31 mark but a subsequent 6-0 run by the Blue and White put MU back up for good.
Jazmine Miller led Wesley with 17 points while Rachelle Allen added 10. Aleisha Hobbs paced the Wolverines with 10 rebounds.
Marymount returns to the friendly confines of the Verizon Sports Arena on Saturday as it opens the second half of CAC play against defending league champions York (Pa.).
