Indianapolis, Ind. – Marymount University’s women’s basketball team will face Eastern Mennonite in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament, as announced by the NCAA on Monday afternoon. The Saints will travel to Newport News, Va., and face the winner of the other opening game between host Christopher Newport and Guilford if they advance.
Marymount (23-4) won the Capital Athletic Conference championship and is making its 17th appearance in the NCAA Tournament in program history. The Saints last advanced to the national stage in 2010 en route to a Sweet 16 run. In all, the Saints have reached one Final Four, one Elite Eight and seven Sweet 16s.
Eastern Mennonite picked up an at-large bid after falling to Guilford in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference championship. The Royals are 21-6 overall and are making their second appearance in the NCAA Tournament in program history.
Guilford won the ODAC championship over EMU and carries a 23-4 overall record. The Quakers and Marymount faced each other earlier this season in December with the Saints claiming a 56-52 victory at home.
Christopher Newport hosts the four-team bracket after finishing 26-2 overall and winning the USA South Tournament title in its final year in the league. Marymount and the Captains faced off in the championship game of the MU Tip-Off Tournament in November with CNU winning 64-52.
Friday's first round game will tip-off at 5 p.m. Tickets for NCAA First and Second Round games are $6 for adults and $3 for students.
