Arlington, Va. – Marymount University junior guard Katelyn Fischer was named Capital One First Team Academic All-District®, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday. First Team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first, second and third team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
A business major from Reisterstown, Md., Fischer is one of the top performers in the Capital Athletic Conference and NCAA Division III, averaging 16.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game while posting a stellar 3.96 grade-point average. She ranks top-10 in the league in each of those statistical categories as well as field goal, three-point and free throw shooting percentages.
Fischer is second in the CAC in scoring, assists per game and free throw shooting. She is also fourth in three-point shooting, fifth in field goal percentage, sixth in steals and eighth in rebounds per game. On the national stage, Fischer ranks 28th in assists per game and free throw shooting, 57th in scoring and 112th in field goal percentage.
Scoring double-figures in 16 games this season, Fischer knocked down at least 20 points in six of those games including a career-high 31. She has posted three double-doubles and was named the CAC Player of the Week once.
The 2012 Capital One Academic All-District ® Men's Basketball and Women’s Basketball Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Capital One became the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA’s Academic All-America teams programs in 2011.
