Women’s Volleyball Advances to CAC Championship, Sets Program Wins Mark
Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s second-seeded women’s volleyball team advanced to the championship match of the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament with a 3-2 (21-25, 25-14, 25-22, 19-25, 15-13) victory over visiting third-seed St. Mary’s (Md.) on Friday night. The Saints also set a program record with their 26th win of the season.
Marymount’s berth in the CAC Finals is the fourth in program history. The Saints (26-9) also reached the finals in 1998, 2005 and 2006.
Freshman Morgan McAlpin was nearly unstoppable on the night, recording a career-high 17 kills to lead all players. She hit at a sizzling .441 clip and committed just a pair of attack errors. She also added seven blocks in the win.
Jenn Forbes and Johanna Hummel also added double-figure kills with 13 and 11, respectively. The duo also recorded five blocks each as well.
Melissa Warren paced the offense with 49 assists.
Defensively, Michelle McCormick led all players with 38 digs while Erin Allison added 20 and Cassidie Watson chipped in 12.
Mandy Goodspeed led the Seahawks (20-9) with 12 kills while Jenn Rindone added 10.
Marymount returns to action to face top-seeded and 15th-ranked Salisbury in the CAC Finals on Sunday. First serve is set for 1 p.m., and the winner of the match receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
