York, Pa. – Marymount University women’s basketball’s Katelyn Fischer was named the Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday. The weekly accolade is the second of the season for Fischer.
Helping Marymount to a perfect 2-0 record on the week, Fischer and the Saints took sole possession of fourth place in the league standings and an inside track to hosting the opening round of the CAC Tournament. The Saints avenged an earlier season loss to Salisbury to open the week and closed things out with a series sweep over St. Mary’s (Md.).
Fischer averaged 18 points, 8.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game on the week while playing all 40 minutes in both games. She nearly posted a double-double in the weekend victory over the Seahawks, scoring 18 points to go with 11 rebounds and eight assists.
Off the court and in the classroom, Fischer was also named Capital One First Team Academic All-District last week. A junior business major, she has posted a stellar 3.96 grade point average at Marymount while ranking in the top-10 in the CAC seven different statistical categories.
Marymount returns to the hardwood on Wednesday as it hosts Wesley in CAC action. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. and fans can follow the action live by logging on to www.marymount.edu/athletics/wBasketball and selecting the “live stats” link.
