Josh Merck, a veteran high school cross country and track coach, is the new Marymount men and women's cross country coach, according to athletic director Bill Finney.
Merck, who becomes the second coach in the history of MU cross country, comes to the Saints following an eight-year stint at Wakefield High School in Arlington where he coached two individual state champions and another runnerup. In addition, he coached many other all-state, all-region and all-district athletes.
"Josh will be a great addition to our staff," said athletic director Bill Finney. "He is high energy and will motivate our student-athletes."
Prior to this position which will begin on August 3, Merck was the department chair of health and physical education at South Lakes High School as well as the strength and conditioning coach. Previously he was a health and physical education teacher at Gunston Middle School and a science, math and technology teacher at Shepherd Park Elementary School.
Merck holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Education from the University of Maryland and a Master of Science degree in School Psychology from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
