Frostburg, Md. - Marymount University’s men’s lacrosse team collected its first Capital Athletic Conference victory of the season with an 11-5 win over Frostburg State on Wednesday night. The Saints move to 4-7 overall on the year and 1-4 in league play.
David Huson led the Saints with four goals while Connor Kellogg added a hat trick with three. Lance Bernecker, Ethan Quick, Vince Lodato and Matt Hershel each scored for MU as well.
Marymount found itself in an early 3-1 hole in the first quarter before Huson knocked home his first goal with six seconds remaining in the frame. After a scoreless second, Quick knotted the game at 3-3 before back-to-back goals from Kellogg closed out the stanza and gave the Saints a 6-5 lead going into the fourth quarter.
The last 15 minutes was all Marymount and the Saints shutout their hosts 5-0 to close out the game.
Marymount collected an impressive 43 ground ball in the win compared to the Bobcats’ 28. Huson led the Saints with eight while Lodato added six, Max Rowse had five and both Austin Miller and Danny Carson hauled in three.
Lodato was almost unstoppable on face-offs, winning 13 of 19 trips to the center.
In goal, Ross Fernandez collected 17 saves in between the pipes for the win. He posted two shutout quarters, allowed just one goal in the final 21 minutes of action and two in the final 46.
Chris Rios led the Bobcats (2-11, 0-5 CAC) with two goals.
Marymount returns to action on Saturday as it hosts CAC foe Wesley at Long Bridge Park.
