Women’s Hoops Falls to York

Saturday, December 04, 2010
Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s women’s basketball team evened its Capital Athletic Conference record with a 54-44 loss to visiting York (Pa.) on Saturday afternoon. The Saints fall to 1-1 in the CAC and 1-4 overall.

Senior forward Maame Amponsah notched her fifth double-double of the season with 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. She has achieved the feat in each of the Saints’ games this year.

Junior forward Jackie Bohenek led MU with a game-high 14 points to go with eight rebounds while senior guard Amanda Billy chipped in 11 points with a contest-best three three-pointers.

The Spartans (5-1, 2-0 CAC) edged Marymount by just 10 points despite the fact the Saints used just six players and shot 24 percent from the floor. Conversely, York used 11 players and hit 52.4 percent of its field goals.

Marymount dominated the boards, pulling down 46 to the Spartans’ 35. The Saints also cleaned up on the offensive end, grabbing 23 offensive rebounds to just six by York.

Beth Wiggins collected nine rebounds off the bench for MU while Julie Tomesheski added seven.

Marymount returns to the hardwood on Wednesday, December 8, on the road at Salisbury in CAC action. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
