Women’s Swimming Remains Third After Second Day of CAC Championships, Men Fifth

St. Mary’s City, Md. – Marymount University’s women’s swimming team closed out the second day of the Capital Athletic Conference Championships in third place while the men’s squad remained fifth. The Saints women have posted 320 points in two days of competition while the men’s team collected 172.

On the women’s side, the Saints opened the day with a silver medal performance in the 200 medley relay. Taylor Hood, Emily Wagner, Bridget Wunderly and Katie Moran swam a 1:52.43 for the second place finish and All-CAC honors.

Other top finishes included Casey Thomas, Katie Scott, Wunderly and Moran finishing third in the 800 freestyle relay and Wunderly just missing out on the medal stand with a fourth place finish in the 100 butterfly.

Hood and Lauren Funk placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 100 backstroke, Thomas was sixth in the 200 freestyle, Rizzo sixth in the 400 IM and Wagner seventh in the 100 breaststroke.

On the men’s side, Matt Ward, Tom Baroz, Joseph Gardner and Nigel Patterson fourth in 200 medley relay to start off the day. Gardner placed fifth in 100 breaststroke, followed by Greg Shumaker ninth and Jeff D’Angelo 13th.

Ward posted a 10th place finish in the 100 backstroke while Baroz placed 13th in the 200 freestyle.

Marymount returns to action on Sunday to wrap up the CAC Championships.
