Volleyball Drops Pair of Five-Set Heartbreakers
Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s volleyball team closed out the 2010 season with a pair of hard-fought five-set losses on Saturday. The Saints fell 3-2 (15-25, 25-20, 25-17, 14-25, 17-15) to Eastern Mennonite before dropping the season finale 3-2 (25-20, 25-13, 22-25, 19-25, 15-3) to Susquehanna in the nightcap.
Sharda Braxton led the Saints in the opener with 17 kills at a solid .316 attack percentage while Johanna Hummel added 14 in the loss. Hanna House chipped in nine kills while Michelle McCormick chimed in with eight.
Defensively, Chelsea Gates led MU with 13 digs while McCormick added 12. House paced the Saints at the net with three blocks, including a pair of solo rejections.
In the finale, Hummel went off for 19 kills to lead Marymount. McCormick added 12, Braxton had nine and House chipped in five.
McCormick and Melissa Warren posted double-doubles against Susquehanna. McCormick added 18 digs to go with her 12 kills while Warren collected 10 digs to go with 37 assists.
Gates again pace the Saints with 19 digs in her final collegiate match.
