Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s women’s volleyball team released its 2012 schedule, as announced by head coach Beth Ann Wilson on Friday. The Saints return an experienced team that won eight of its last 10 matches last season and looks to pick up right where it left off.
Taking part in four major tournaments and another four tri-matches, MU kicks the year off with nine matches in eight days. The Saints first head down to Virginia Beach to take part in the Virginia Wesleyan Invitational before taking part in the CUA Invitational the following weekend.
Sandwiched between the two draws is Marymount’s home opener against Washington (Md.) on September 5, one of just seven home matches for the Blue and White as part of an ambitious road schedule.
Marymount also travels to the Neumann and Gallaudet Tournaments in September while also playing Shenandoah and McDaniel on the road in non-conference action.
Opening Capital Athletic Conference play at home on September 19, the Saints host Frostburg State to kick off the first of two three-match homestands. The Blue and White then welcome Catholic and Hollins to Arlington for a tri-match on September 22.
October also sees the Saints taking part in road tri-matches at Rutgers-Camden, Lycoming and Elizabethtown. At home, Marymount faces St. Mary’s (Md.) on October 10 in their annual Dink Pink event, rival Mary Washington a week later on October 17 and against former league foe Hood on October 19 on ‘Senior Night’ in conjunction with Family Weekend.
Marymount went 13-16 last season and returns 12 letterwinners, including five seniors and nine total upperclassmen.
