Offense Comes Alive as Men’s Soccer Earns First Victory
Reading, Pa. – Marymount University’s men’s soccer team picked up its first win of the season with a 6-1 victory at Penn State Berks on Wednesday afternoon. The Saints improve to 1-4 on the year.
Ahmed Elamanialawy led the Saints with a pair of goals while Onar Yousefi, Vinnie Bastos, Max Banziger and Franklin Garcia each scored for the Blue and White as well. Bastos and Jorge Alvarado each tallied assists in the win.
Yousefi put the Saints on the board first, capitalizing on a Berks (0-3) red card in the 36th minute and scoring on a free kick into the top right corner. The Nittany Lions battled back, scoring less than five minutes later to take a 1-1 tie into the break but couldn’t keep the Marymount offense at bay in the second half.
Coming out of halftime, Banziger struck in the 49th minute followed by Garcia’s goal in the 56th minute. Elmanialawy’s first goal came at the 69:16 mark while Bastos netted his score almost exactly 10 minutes later at 79:15. Marymount closed out the barrage of scoring with Elmanialawy’s final goal just second before the end of regulation.
Logan Cropper and Alexander Cortez split time between the pipes with Cropper getting his first career victory. The Saints defense allowed just three shots all day and only one on goal.
