Men’s Lacrosse Sets Scoring Mark, Blanks Penn State Abington

Arlington, Va. – Marymount University’s men’s lacrosse team shutout visiting Penn State Abington 27-0 on Wednesday afternoon. The Saints 27 goals set a program record and was the first shutout in program history.

Fifteen different Saints (2-1) scored on the day including four players that recorded a hat-trick. Michael Mene, Jimmy Roessner, Vince Lodato and Michael Yoo all paved the way with three goals each while Connor Kellogg, David Huson, Jack Burke and Eric Martin each chipped in a pair.

George Pugh, Danny Carson, Matt Hershel, Mike Quick, Jimmy Wendell, Mike Smith and Lance Bernecker all tallied a goal as well.

Marymount recorded assists on 22 of its 25 goals. Mene had five to tie for fifth most in a single game at MU while Huson and Roessner both added two.

The Saints collected 56 ground balls to the Nittany Lions (0-3) 21. Lodato and Ryan Doremus led Marymount with seven ground balls each while Huson added five and Smith had four. Doremus also led the way with five caused turnovers while Huson chipped in three.

In goal, the Saints split duties between the pipes once again. Ross Fernandez got the start and earned the victory after manning the first scoreless quarter. Derek DiGiovanni saw action in the second quarter, collecting a pair of saves. Kevin Genna closed things out in the second half, playing both stanzas and sealing the shutout with two saves.

Marymount returns to action on Saturday at Virginia Wesleyan.
